Recently WRC launched the first open learning event at school, raising awareness of gender based violence and preventing any form of violence in the family and community.
105 people registered to attend the event, and representatives from the Council for Women and Children, the Police Chief, a Lawyer and the school Principal were invited to be guest speakers. The speakers shared their knowledge and answered questions on domestic violence, divorce procedure and filing complaints in court.
WRC has been conducting school outreach programs since 2015, where a school-based needs assessment saw WRC endorsed by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport to work with secondary schools in targeted village communities. Intervention workshops have focused on alcohol awareness, peer pressure, women’s rights and gender equality.
